Skanderborg Sø Camping beach is a privately owned natural beach located on Vrold Sø in central Jutland, Denmark. The beach is approximately 40 meters long and 10 meters wide, with shallow water in the first meters and a sandy bottom with scattered reed vegetation. The beach features four small bathing piers and is surrounded by trees providing shade, with approximately 1700 square meters of mowed grass suitable for ball games. Water temperatures in the bathing area range from 14 to 22 degrees Celsius during summer months.

Water

Vrold Sø is a shallow, calcareous freshwater lake in the Gudenå system with main water catchment to Randers Fjord. Water temperatures range from 14 to 22 degrees Celsius during summer. The lake has sandy bottom with scattered reed vegetation in the bathing area. Inflows include water from Skanderborg Sø and Æbleskovgård Bæk; outflow is via Tånning Å.

Monitoring and bathing season runs from April to October.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as 'Excellent' (Udmærket), the highest classification under Danish Regulation 165. Over 95% of bathing water analyses from 2006-2009 showed E. Coli values below 500 and Enterococci below 200. The classification is based on four years of bathing water analysis data.

Risks

Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) blooms present a high risk, particularly in late summer after rainy periods followed by warm, calm, sunny weather. Algae blooms can cause skin irritation, diarrhea, headache, fever, and nausea, especially in children, weakened persons, and allergy sufferers. Invasive zebra mussels have been recorded in the Gudenå system since 2006. Possible faecal contamination sources include discharge from scattered dwellings, manure leaks, and emptying of boat toilet tanks, though fecal contamination risk is considered low.
