Skårupøre Strand is a bathing area stretching nearly 3 km along the South Funen Archipelago coast. The western section features fine sandy beach, while the eastern portions are narrower and predominantly stony. The seabed consists of fine sand with scattered seaweed and few stones. Water depth reaches less than 2 metres for 100–200 metres from shore. The beach has varying characteristics along its length, with sandy sections near Skårupøre Camping and increasingly rocky terrain towards Åbyskov.

Water

Saltwater in the South Funen Archipelago. Water depth less than 2 metres for 100–200 metres from shore. Tidal range under 0.5 metres. Primary current direction from southwest, variable with wind conditions. Beach length over 500 metres with widths from 0–10 metres.

Location

Located at Skårupøre Strandvej 58B, 5881 Skårup, Fyn, Denmark. The beach stretches from Skårupøre Camping to Åbyskov. Parking is available at both ends of the beach and towards the west. Public transport by bus is available.

Facilities

Bathing platforms at both ends of the beach; parking; toilets; kiosk and restaurant (towards the west); bus access; mobile coverage throughout the beach; rescue ring buoy available for emergencies. No beach observation tower. No blue flag designation.

Season

Official monitoring period: 1 June–15 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Excellent. Classification based on routine monitoring samples from the last four years analysing E. coli and Enterococcus bacteria. Monitoring conducted during the bathing season (1 June–15 September). Classification reviewed annually before the start of the bathing season.

Risks

Risk of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) and phytoplankton blooms assessed as low but may occur during prolonged warm periods with high nutrient content. Some algal species can produce toxins causing headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhoea. Risk of washed-up seaweed (macroalgae) along the waterline; rotting seaweed can produce toxins and harbour pathogenic bacteria. Potential hazards include broken glass, litter, chemical contamination, and oil spills. Rainwater outlets and overflow structures present; rapid dilution in seawater during heavy rain assessed as non-hazardous. Individual properties along the shore use combined sewers; Åbyskov uses separate sewers.
