Skødshoved Syd Strand is a bathing beach located south of the harbour at Skødshoved in Aarhus Bay. The beach is stony and gravelly, between 10 and 55 metres wide, with a narrow beach meadow to the east. The seabed consists of gravel with lesser amounts of sand and stone, deepening relatively quickly to 2 metres depth at a distance of 25 to 30 metres from the shore. The beach is suitable for swimming, fishing, surfing, and kayaking.

Aarhus Bay. The beach is 10 to 55 metres wide. Water depth reaches 2 metres at a distance of 25 to 30 metres from the shore. Salinity is approximately 25 ‰. Water temperature varies between 15 °C and 23 °C during the bathing season.

Location

Skødshoved Syd Strand is located south of the harbour at Hundshøjevej, approximately 300 to 400 metres further south. Access to the beach is via a gravel road from Vestre Strandvej or Hundshøjevej. A small parking area is provided at the gravel road for vehicle parking between sunrise and sunset. GPS coordinates: 585 590 east, 622 6220 north.

Facilities

Primitive camping site. No public toilets (visitors directed to Skødshoved Harbour). Skødshoved Pakhus with permanent exhibition and nature education equipment.

Season

Official monitoring period: 1 May to 15 September. Water temperature during bathing season ranges from 15 °C to 23 °C.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as 'satisfactory'. Bacterial levels are generally low but have been slightly elevated in some years. Possible sources of short-term pollution include faecal contamination, algae, and other causes. Faecal pollution can result from sewage overflow and septic tank emptying from boats. Blue-green algae, other microscopic algae, and seaweed can cause discoloration. Oil spills from ships and pollen accumulations are also documented risks.

Risks

Short-term faecal contamination from sewage overflow during rainfall poses minor risk. Risk of blue-green algae blooms is very low due to high salinity. Risk of microscopic algae blooms is small. Risk of large seaweed accumulation is small. Chemical pollution from ships poses low risk. Pollen accumulation can occur in spring and early summer.
