Sotto il Zanego is a rocky coastal stretch extending east of the village of Tellaro in the Gulf of La Spezia. It is classified as an excellent bathing water body with coastal characteristics and mountainous features with low stability. The area is monitored for water quality and managed by local authorities.

Water

Coastal marine waters in the Gulf of La Spezia. The bathing area covers 2.351 hectares. The water body is characterised by oligotrophic conditions with no cyanobacterial blooms.

Location

Water Quality

Water quality classification is Excellent (2008–2011). Identified pollution sources include the Tellaro wastewater treatment plant with an active marine outfall and the Marossa stream mouth. Short-duration pollution events are assessed using a modeling approach under development.

Risks

The Ligurian Sea does not show cyanobacterial blooms due to predominant oligotrophic conditions. No cases of toxic algal strain proliferation have been recorded in the last four years.
