Fiascherino is a bathing area in the Gulf of La Spezia comprising a rocky cliff section alternating with sandy beach on the western part. The area is characterized by a tourist and residential setting with private bathing establishments, free beach sections, numerous accommodation facilities, and local dining options. The Fiascherino village and the Shelley staircase from the SP26 road provide access to the sea, with a hiking trail connecting to Tellaro.

Water

Coastal water body in the Gulf of La Spezia, covering an area of 0.873 km². The bathing area comprises a bay with extensive artificial rocky cliff and sandy beach on the western side of the gulf.

Location

Located in the municipality of Lerici in La Spezia province, Liguria region. The village of Fiascherino is situated inland, with access via the SP26 road and the Shelley staircase that leads to the sea.

Private bathing establishments with related services, free beach sections, numerous accommodation facilities, local dining options, and the Shelley staircase for access.

Water Quality

Classification for 2018–2021 monitoring seasons: Excellent. A sewage pipe transits approximately 40 meters east of the sampling station and discharges approximately 330 meters from the shore.

Risks

Ostreopsis ovata microalgae blooms have occurred in the area. Exceedances of the 30,000 cells/liter limit were recorded in August 2018 and July 2019. Values between 10,000–30,000 cells/liter were recorded in August and September 2018, July 2019, September 2020, and July 2021. Inhalation of aerosol from Ostreopsis ovata can cause temporary and reversible respiratory symptoms and fever in sensitive individuals. Increased watercourse discharge due to upstream issues and precipitation may transport sewage downstream.
