Fiascherino Camping is a coastal bathing area located along a high, rocky stretch of coast in the Gulf of La Spezia. The beach is situated between Punta di Mezzano and Punta delle Stelle. The area has been classified as excellent for water quality during the 2008–2011 monitoring period. The Ligurian Sea does not experience cyanobacterial blooms due to its oligotrophic conditions.

Water

Coastal waters in the Gulf of La Spezia, classified as mountainous high relief waters with low stability. The water body is fed by the Fiascherino Channel.

Location

Located in Lerici, La Spezia Province, Liguria region. The bathing area extends for 1.145 units along the Fiascherino beach, between Punta di Mezzano and Punta delle Stelle.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008–2011). No coastal wastewater treatment plants, treatment systems, or Imhoff tanks are present in the area. A river mouth (foce fluviale) has been identified as a pollution source.

Risks

Potentially toxic algal strains have been detected. Alert threshold exceedances with subsequent algal blooms were recorded in all four years of monitoring in both water and macroalgae matrices. A modelling approach for characterizing and identifying sources of short-duration pollution events and anomalous situations is under development.
