Tellaro is a rocky cliff coast bathing area located in front of the maritime village of Tellaro in Lerici, Liguria. The bathing water extends from the Trigliano rocks to the northwest to Treggiano point to the southeast. The area is characterized by a tourist and residential urbanized context with free beach access, numerous accommodation structures, and local dining establishments. A seaside promenade, maritime village, public parking, and hiking trail are available upstream.

Water

Coastal water body in the Gulf of La Spezia (CWA3 - Low Stability Mountain Range). Bathing area extends 0.708 km. Two water channels drain into the bathing area: Canale di Capo D'Acqua and Canale di Ronchetto.

Water Quality

Classification for 2018–2021: Excellent. A coastal treatment plant (depuratore costiero) is located approximately 50 meters east of the sampling station with a sewage pipe that crosses the initial section of the bathing water before discharging offshore at approximately 900 meters from the shore.

Risks

Portal pollution linked to the presence of Tellaro's tourist harbour. During periods of upstream criticality and heavy rainfall, increased torrent flow rates may transport sewage downstream. Ostreopsis ovata microalgae proliferation has been documented in the reference station at Fiascherino with exceedances of 30,000 cells/litre recorded in August 2018 and July 2019, and values between 10,000–30,000 cells/litre in August and September 2018, July 2019, September 2020, and July 2021. Inhalation of aerosol from Ostreopsis ovata causes temporary and reversible respiratory symptoms and possible fever in sensitive subjects.
