Sottomarina is a equipped beach located on the peninsula separating the Lagoon of Venice and the Adriatic Sea to the south. The beach extends for approximately 5 km, with the monitored section oriented along a north-south direction, situated about 3 km south of the Chioggia harbour entrance and approximately 2 km north of the Brenta River mouth. The beach has a width of 200 metres.

Chioggia, Veneto region, Venice province. The bathing water is located approximately 3 km south of Chioggia harbour entrance and approximately 2 km north of the Brenta River mouth.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is excellent (2021–2024). Enterococci 95th percentile: 15,343 CFU/100 ml; 90th percentile: 14,095 CFU/100 ml. Escherichia coli 95th percentile: 74,312 CFU/100 ml; 90th percentile: 54,599 CFU/100 ml.

Risks

The Brenta River mouth is identified as a potential pollution source. The Chioggia–Brondolo treatment plant (design capacity 160,000 population equivalents) is located 3.3 km from the sea discharge point.
