Spiaggia Genovesi is a bathing area located on the Liguria coast near Recco, characterized by high rocky coastline with a sandy beach to the east. The area is classified as coastal waters with mountainous relief and low stability. The beach received an excellent water quality classification for the 2021–2024 monitoring period.

Water

Coastal water body (Genova–Camogli water body). Area extension: 0.940 km². The coast is predominantly rocky and high, with a sandy beach on the eastern side.

Location

Recco, Genova Province, Liguria region. The beach is located along the coast east of Recco town. A parking area is available above the beach near the SS1 highway and railway line.

Facilities

The beach lacks tourist services. Parking is available above the beach.

Water Quality

Classification for 2021–2024: Excellent. The Ligurian Sea is characterized by oligotrophic conditions that prevent cyanobacterial blooms. Ostreopsis ovata microalgae have been detected in the region over the past decade, though monitoring at the reference station (Bagnara, Genova) showed no exceedances of the 30,000 cells/litre limit during 2020–2024; values of 10,000–30,000 cells/litre were recorded in July 2022 and 2023.

Risks

Wastewater discharge from the Punta S.Anna treatment plant located approximately 900 metres away and the via Garibaldi treatment plant in Camogli located approximately 710 metres away discharge outside the bathing water area. Heavy precipitation can increase torrent flow rates, potentially transporting effluent downstream from the Fossato del Migliaro watercourse at the eastern boundary. Ostreopsis ovata microalgae can cause temporary and reversible respiratory effects and fever in sensitive individuals when inhaled as aerosol.
