Piscina Antonio Ferro is a coastal bathing water located at the mouth of the Torrente Recco in Liguria, Italy. The site consists of a short stretch of shoreline composed mainly of artificial structures positioned along the right bank of the stream, terminating at Punta Sant'Anna. The area is surrounded by private beach establishments with tourist services, accommodation facilities, and restaurants. The water body is classified as coastal waters with mountainous terrain and low stability. The bathing water has been classified as good quality for the 2021–2024 monitoring period.

Coastal water body at the Torrente Recco estuary in the Genova-Camogli watershed. The bathing water area extends 0.256 km². The estuary is positioned within an inlet delimited by artificial structures, with mooring facilities for boats present to the east.

Location

Located in Recco, province of Genova, Liguria region, Italy. The site is positioned along the Torrente Recco estuary, with the town centre of Recco to the east and higher coastal areas to the west. Water Quality

Classification for 2021–2024: Good. The water body is located in an urbanized context. No cyanobacteria blooms are characteristic of this area due to oligotrophic conditions in the Ligurian Sea. Microalgal proliferation events involving Ostreopsis ovata have occurred in the region over the past decade. The reference monitoring station at Bagnara recorded values between 10,000–30,000 cells/litre in July 2022 and 2023, but did not exceed the 30,000 cells/litre limit during 2020–2024.

Risks

The Torrente Recco estuary discharges directly into the bathing water. Wastewater treatment plant outfalls from Punta Sant'Anna are located approximately 160 metres west of the monitoring station and discharge approximately 400 and 1,150 metres from the beach, outside the designated bathing water area. During heavy precipitation, increased stream flow may transport sewage downstream. Microalgal proliferation of Ostreopsis ovata can cause temporary and reversible respiratory irritation and fever in sensitive individuals through aerosol inhalation.
