Strandbakkerne Strand is a natural beach located east of Gilleleje Harbour in Denmark. The beach is approximately 300 metres long and 15 metres wide, situated adjacent to a rolling natural area with benches and a bonfire site. The area is privately owned but open to the public. Water depth reaches 3 metres between 160 and 230 metres from the shore.

Water

Saltwater beach (approximately 2% salinity). Sand and stone bottom with clay substrate. Dominant current direction is easterly, with local currents around wave breakers possible.

Location

East of Gilleleje Harbour. Parking available at the end of Østergade and opposite the care homes on Østre Alle.

Facilities

Lifeguards present during bathing season and during school summer holidays between 10:00–18:00. Accessible rescue ring throughout bathing season. Toilets available. Handicap toilet available. Waste bins and recycling facilities. Year-round bathing bridge. Dogs allowed on lead from 1 April to 30 September; off-lead allowed during winter period.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified based on samples taken over the last four years. Low risk of cyanobacteria growth in the area, though blooms may drift from the Øresund. Minimal macroalgae growth within 4 metres depth.

Risks

Risk of sewage overflow from Søborg Canal during heavy rain, causing water contamination for up to 2 days. Diffuse pollution may occur from harbour activities and stormwater discharge.
