Østmolen Gilleleje Havn

A bathing platform located on the eastern breakwater of Gilleleje Harbour. The water is 1–2 metres deep at the facility. Water quality is classified based on samples collected over the preceding four years. A rescue ring is available throughout the bathing season, though no lifeguard is permanently stationed.

Water

Saltwater harbour environment, approximately 1–2 metres deep at the platform. Dominant current direction is easterly with significant turbulence on the lee side of the breakwater. Seabed consists of sand without fixed reef structure, with stones. Salinity approximately 2%.

Location

Gilleleje Harbour, eastern breakwater. Parking available at Fabersvej/Østeralle car park.

Facilities

Toilet facilities including disabled toilet. Life saving equipment with rescue ring available throughout bathing season. No lifeguard on duty, but lifeguard present during bathing season. Litter bin. Dogs allowed if on lead.

Water Quality

Water quality classification based on four-year sample results. Low risk of cyanobacterial growth in the area, though blue-green algae may drift from the Øresund. Only minor growth of seaweed within 4 metres of the structure. Potential pollution sources: discharge from Søborg Canal may cause sewage overflow during heavy rain (risk lasting up to 2 days after event); diffuse pollution from harbour activities and stormwater outfalls; Søborg Canal drains an unsewered hinterland behind Gilleleje.

Risk of sewage overflow from Søborg Canal during heavy rainfall with potential water contamination lasting up to 2 days. Blue-green algae may drift from Øresund. Turbulence on lee side of breakwater.
