Smidstrup Strand

Smidstrup Strand is a natural beach located in a summer cottage area at the end of Smidstrup Søvej. The mixed stone and sand beach is approximately 300 meters long and 25 meters wide. Adjacent to the beach is a protected natural area (coastal heathland) with paths, benches, and a fire pit.

Water

Saltwater body with approximately 2% salinity. Water depth reaches 2 meters between 100–180 meters from the shore. The seabed is sandy with stones present in the first few meters from the beach. Dominant current direction is easterly; western and northern winds can produce large waves.

Location

Located at the end of Smidstrup Søvej, accessed via Sognevej. A parking area is available at the end of Smidstrup Søvej. Handicap parking is provided on the parking lot.

Lifeguard present during school summer holidays 10:00–18:00. Lifeguard present during bathing season. Rescue ring available throughout the bathing season. Swimming platform (badebro) available during summer season leading to sandy bottom. Toilets. Handicap toilet. Handicap parking. Information point. Parking. Litter bin. Garbage sorting. Life-saving equipment.

Season

Bathing season is during summer. School summer holidays between 10:00–18:00. Swimming platform available during summer season. Dogs allowed on designated dog beach during summer period (1 April–30 September, 2019–2021 trial). Dogs welcome on leash on other beach areas 1 April–30 September. During winter, dogs welcome on entire beach with or without leash.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified based on samples collected over the most recent four years during the bathing season. Results are available at www.gribskov.dk/badevand. Low risk of cyanobacteria growth in the area, though blooms may drift from Øresund. Minimal growth of seaweed within 4 meters depth. No known discharge outlets or overflow points.
