Middelfart Marina is a bathing beach located in the northern part of Little Belt in Teglgårdsbugten, within Fænø Sound. The beach stretches nearly 200 meters in length, reaching up to 25 meters wide at its northern end before narrowing toward the south. The beach consists mostly of sand with deposits of seaweed and eelgrass. Behind the beach is a large green recreational area with facilities including waste bins, a playground, and beach volleyball courts. The beach is designated as a Blue Flag beach.

Water

Little Belt (Lillebælt) in Teglgårdsbugten, part of Fænø Sound. The water is brackish with salinity just under 20 PSU (Practical Salinity Unit). The seabed consists mostly of sand with some small stones, widespread eelgrass beds, and macroalgae. Water depth is relatively shallow.

Location

Middelfart Marina is located in Middelfart Municipality in the northern part of Little Belt. Access is via a side road to Østre Hougvej or from the Marina. Parking is available at the Marina and at the harbor house. The nearest town is Middelfart.

Facilities

Two rescue stations on the beach and one at the harbor north of the beach. Parking at the Marina. Toilets in the harbor house (Lystbådehavnen 124). Waste bins, playground, and beach volleyball courts on the recreational area. A bathing pier was installed at the southern end of the beach (removed during 2024 season, returning autumn 2025). Blue Flag beach designation.

Season

The beach is monitored during the bathing water season, with at least 10 water samples taken.

Water Quality

The beach is classified as EXCELLENT based on measurements of enterococci and E. coli over the last four years according to EU Bathing Water Directive rules. Monitoring results from 2018-2021 show no exceedances of microbiological parameter limit values. No known pollution sources threaten water quality.

Risks

Strong currents occur in Little Belt, with current direction varying based on tidal and wind conditions. Seaweed (eelgrass and macroalgae) regularly washes ashore but is removed regularly due to Blue Flag status. Risk of cyanobacteria blooms is low; they occur primarily in the Baltic Sea and reach northern Little Belt only during prolonged easterly winds. No phytoplankton blooms have been observed in the last five years.
