Strøby Egede Ahornvej is a 180-metre beach in eastern Strøby Egede, located north of the settlement along Køge Bay. The beach is primarily composed of small to medium-sized stones extending 5–15 metres from the shore, with a bathing bridge providing access to deeper water with a sand bottom. The water is classified as brackish. In 2022, the bathing water was classified as excellent quality based on routine monitoring for faecal indicator bacteria.

Water

Brackish water in Køge Bay with an east–west oriented coastline. Water depth is under 2 metres approximately 100 metres from shore and under 4 metres approximately 600 metres from shore. The beach is 5–10 metres wide and 180 metres long.

Location

Eastern part of Strøby Egede near the transition to Strøby Ladeplads, north of Køge Bay. A spacious car park is available at the beach, along with a toilet building providing drinking water.

Facilities

Lifeguard warnings via electronic sign; toilet building with drinking water and disabled access; benches and waste bins at multiple locations; large grass area with playground and fire pit; bathing bridge for accessing deeper water.

Season

Bathing season monitoring occurs year-round, with the classification revised annually in May before the bathing season begins.

Water Quality

The bathing water at Strøby Egede Ahornvej is classified as excellent quality for 2022, based on routine monitoring of E. coli and enterococci during 2018–2021. The classification is revised annually before the bathing season starts. Faecal indicator bacteria levels are very low.

Risks

Rainwater discharge outlets 50 metres west and 60 metres east of the bathing bridge may contain high concentrations of faecal bacteria during heavy rain and are not recommended for bathing. An overflow structure 600 metres northwest of the bathing bridge can discharge wastewater into Køge Bay during heavy rainfall, managed by an electronic warning system. Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and phytoplankton blooms. Risk of seaweed (macroalgae) wash-up at the water's edge; swimming near large accumulations of seaweed is not recommended. Glass shards and litter may occur. Very low risk of chemical pollution such as oil spills. Sudden pollution can occur from accidents involving pleasure boats, slurry tanks, and sewage pipes.
