Ved Lunden

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Ved Lunden is a 150-meter-long bathing beach in Strøby, classified as having excellent water quality. The beach consists of small and medium-sized stones with a bathing bridge leading over the rocks near the shore. The seabed transitions to sand with sparse aquatic plants further out. The beach is sheltered by stone groynes running perpendicular to the shore and is backed by the Strøby Ladeplads residential area.

Water

Marine brackish water in Køge Bay. Water depth is under 2 meters approximately 100 meters from shore and under 4 meters approximately 600 meters from shore. Current direction is variable, coming primarily from the west or east.

Location

Located in Strøby in Stevns Kommune, southeast/northwest-oriented along Køge Bay. The beach is approximately 10 meters wide and 150 meters long, marked with a blue line. Parking is available near the beach.

Facilities

Bathing bridge, lifeguard post, lifebuoy, waste bin, control point, parking, warning sign for water quality alerts.

Season

Bathing season monitoring occurs annually, with classification revised each May before the season begins.

Water Quality

Classified as excellent quality for 2022 based on routine monitoring samples from 2018–2021 testing for E. coli and enterococci indicator bacteria. Monitoring is conducted regularly during the bathing season. Classification is revised annually before the bathing season begins.

Risks

Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and phytoplankton blooms. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) washed up in the water's edge. Treated wastewater from Strøby Ladeplads treatment plant is discharged 300 meters west via an 800-meter submarine outfall. Emergency overflow from a pumping station 300 meters northwest can discharge raw sewage during heavy rainfall, though monitoring is in place and activation is expected to be rare. Glass fragments and litter can occur. Low risk of chemical contamination such as oil spills. Sudden contamination can occur from boat accidents, slurry tanks, and sewage lines.
