Svenstrup Overdrev

Svenstrup Overdrev is a stone beach approximately 780 metres long and 10 metres wide, consisting of small and large stones both on the shore and in the water. The beach contains significant quantities of macroalgae. It is located in Kalundborg Municipality, Denmark, and has been classified as Excellent based on measurements of intestinal enterococci and E. coli from 2018–2021.

Water

Stone beach consisting of small and large stones. Approximately 780 metres long and 10 metres wide. Current flows predominantly towards the south and southwesterly direction.

Location

Svenstrup Overdrev is located in Kalundborg Municipality, Denmark. Access to the beach is via Udmarken, which ends at a car park. An undeveloped area surrounds the car park and separates the beach from nearby residential areas. The inland area includes the town of Saltbæk and a summer house settlement.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (based on intestinal enterococci and E. coli measurements 2018–2021). Short-term pollution typically results from heavy rainfall causing overflow in drains and watercourses, lasting at most 3 days after rainfall ceases. Risk of pollution from the drain is assessed as very low because the current directs any discharge away from the bathing area.

Risks

Macroalgae present in significant quantities. Risk of cyanobacteria blooms cannot be reliably predicted; warnings are posted during periods of elevated risk. Large quantities of seaweed near the shore present a health risk to both animals and humans. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution may occasionally occur.
