Saltbæk Badebro is a bathing beach approximately 460 meters long and 10 meters wide, composed of mixed sand and small stones. The water's edge features a two-meter-wide belt of eelgrass and some macroalgae. Bathing primarily occurs from a bathing bridge. The beach is classified as Excellent based on measurements of intestinal enterococci and E. coli from 2018–2021.

Water

Coastal bathing water. The beach is approximately 460 meters long and 10 meters wide. The dominant current direction is toward the southeast.

Location

The beach is located in Kalundborg Municipality, Denmark. Access is available by car via Saltbækvej, where parking, toilet facilities, and an information board are provided. The hinterland includes the town of Saltbæk, summer houses, and cultivated fields.

Facilities

Toilet, information board, rescue ring. A bathing bridge is the primary entry point for swimming.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. This classification is based on measurements of intestinal enterococci and E. coli for the years 2018–2021, conducted according to EU bathing water directive rules. Minimum four water samples are collected per year.

Risks

Potential sources of fecal pollution include drainage from a summer house area and the Vesterlandkanalen north of the beach. The dominant southeast current direction poses a risk in relation to these pollution sources. Risks of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms and macroalgae accumulation exist but cannot be reliably predicted. Large quantities of seaweed at the water's edge may present health risks. Short-term pollution can occur following heavy rainfall, typically lasting up to three days after rainfall ceases.
