Vollerup Badebro is a bathing beach approximately 620 metres long and 10 metres wide, located in Kalundborg Municipality, Denmark. The beach is primarily covered with small stones and occasional large stones with sparse vegetation. Bathing occurs mainly from a bathing pier located directly opposite the car park. The beach has been classified as excellent based on measurements of intestinal enterococci and E. coli from 2018 to 2021.

The beach is situated on a water body with currents flowing predominantly in a southern direction.

Location

Vollerup Stranden provides vehicle access, ending at a car park adjacent to the beach. The nearest town is Kalundborg. Parking is available at the car park by the beach.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is excellent (UDMÆRKET) based on intestinal enterococci and E. coli measurements from 2018 to 2021, according to EU bathing water directive standards. A drain outlet is located east of the beach and is identified as a source of faecal pollution. The dominant current direction moving southward creates a risk from these outlets.

Risks

Drain outlets pose a faecal pollution risk due to the southward current direction. Short-term pollution typically results from heavy rainfall causing drain and watercourse overflow, generally lasting a maximum of 3 days after rainfall ceases. Risk of cyanobacterial blooms and large quantities of macroalgae (seaweed) exists but cannot be predicted with certainty. Large quantities of macroalgae can promote bacterial growth and prolong the survival of faecal bacteria. Occasional occurrences of glass fragments, litter, and chemical pollution may occur.
