Svinø Strand is a 200-metre-long beach located on the west coast of Vordingborg Municipality facing Smålandsfarvandet. The beach consists of fine sand with scattered small stones and is 10–15 metres wide. Water depth increases gradually, making it suitable for children. The beach is situated in a scenic natural area with dunes vegetated with marram grass providing shelter from easterly winds.

Water

The water at Svinø Strand is classified as brackish water in Smålandsfarvandet. Water depth is under 2 metres within 100–120 metres from the shore. The seabed consists of fine sand with scattered small stones. Current direction is variable with no primary flow direction.

Location

Vordingborg Municipality's west coast at the Svinø Strand summer house area. Access via Dybsøvejen which leads to a parking area at the beach. Parking is available.

Facilities

Rescue ring, trash bin, warning sign for deteriorated water quality, and parking available.

Season

Official monitoring period is 1 June to 1 September.

Water Quality

Svinø Strand is classified as Excellent quality. Classification is based on routine monitoring of indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci) during the bathing season. Concentrations of faecal bacteria are very low. Historical measurements indicate that overflow structures from Dybsø Fjord do not cause deteriorated water quality at the beach.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms is low. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) wash-up is low. Risk of chemical pollution such as oil spills is very low. Glass shards and litter can occur. Sudden pollution from leisure boats, slurry tanks, or sewage pipes is possible. No known sources of short-term faecal pollution are present.
