Asaa Strand is a sandy beach located in Kattegat, 1 km east of Asaa and south of Asaa Harbour in Denmark. The beach is 400 meters long and 10-20 meters wide, composed of fine sand with a seabed of fine sand and occasional small stones. The area behind the beach is vegetated with marram grass, and nearby lies the Asaa-Gerå nature reserve offering varied natural scenery.

Water

The water is classified as saltwater in Kattegat. Water depth is under 2 meters within 125 meters from the shore. Current direction is primarily from the south. The beach is shallow water.

Location

Asaa Strand is located 1 km east of Asaa and south of Asaa Harbour, facing Kattegat. Access is via Havnegade with directional signs to the parking area. Parking is available. Wheelchair-accessible facilities and a wheelchair-accessible path lead from the parking area to the beach. Handicap toilets are available both in the toilet building at the beach and at the harbour.

Water quality classification: Good. The classification is based on routine monitoring samples analyzed for E. coli and enterococcus bacteria collected regularly from 2014-2017. The beach meets water quality standards. Classification is revised annually before the bathing season begins.

Risks

Low risk of toxic algal (cyanobacteria) blooms. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Bredholt Bæk stream 550 meters south of the beach may periodically contain high concentrations of fecal bacteria and bathing at its outlet is discouraged. Drainage ditches along the coast south and north of the beach may periodically contain high concentrations of fecal bacteria from grazing livestock and manure application; bathing at their outlets is discouraged. Short-term contamination from rainfall may occur. Risk of glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills. Sudden contamination from accidents involving recreational boats, manure tanks, and sewage pipes is possible.
