Vigsnæs is a sandy beach with stones located on Guldborgsund in North Lolland, approximately 1 km from Vigsnæs. The beach is approximately 400 meters long and under 5 meters wide. The area is very shallow, with water depth under 1 meter for approximately the first 600 meters from the shore. The water is classified as brackish.

Water

Brackish water body (Guldborgsund). Water depth under 1 meter for approximately 600 meters from shore. Beach approximately 400 meters long and under 5 meters wide. Water temperature during bathing season ranges from 14–26 °C. Water currents predominantly toward the west (22% of measurements), with variable directions.

Location

Located on Guldborgsund in North Lolland, approximately 1 km from Vigsnæs. Access is via Havmosevej. There are no public transport connections to the beach. Parking is available at the end of the road near the beach.

Season

Official monitoring season: 1 May to 1 September. Minimum 6 samples collected during this period.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent according to Danish regulations. Based on data from 2011–2014, there were no exceedances of bathing water quality requirements. No significant faecal pollution detected.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms, particularly during prolonged warm, sunny weather and with easterly winds. Cyanobacteria can produce toxins causing headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhea. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) accumulation at the shore. Glass fragments, waste, oil spills, and other chemical pollution can occasionally occur. Sudden pollution may occur from boat accidents, manure tankers, and sewer lines.
