Denmark Lake 1 - Excellent

Teglgårdssøen is a small freshwater lake located at Carlsbergvej in Nyvang, Hillerød. The lake measures approximately 60 metres long and 2 metres wide. Water quality is classified as excellent. The lake has limited wave action and shallow water with no current, though mixing may be poor in calm weather.

Water

Freshwater lake approximately 60 metres long and 2 metres wide. Water depth ranges from 0 to approximately 1.6 metres. The lake bed consists of 0–20 centimetres of loose sediment, stabilised with gravel and sand in the bathing zone.

Location

Carlsbergvej, Nyvang, Hillerød. Public footpaths provide access along the west, north, and east sides. Parking is available at a larger car park south of the lake.

Facilities

Bathing jetty (established 2020). Tables and benches on the grass area. Toilet facilities available during bathing season. No lifeguards. No disabled access facilities. No parking at the site.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: excellent. Monitored with 10 samples per bathing season at station 219-xx. Salinity is less than 0.05 percent (freshwater). Main inflow is Skelbækken from the south; no known wastewater inflows. Outflow to the west via Teglgårdsåen.

Risks

Low risk of cyanobacteria blooms, which may occur during extended periods of calm, warm weather with little or no runoff, typically in late summer. Risk of phytoplankton blooms. Potential risk of infection with swimmer's itch, a parasitic infection causing skin irritation, similar to other freshwater lakes in the region. The lake has not been surveyed for this condition.
