Buresøbadet

Denmark Lake 1 - Excellent

Buresøbadet is a freshwater bathing site located in Egedal Municipality at the eastern end of Buresø lake. A bathing platform is installed during the swimming season, surrounded by a sandy beach approximately 11 metres long and 20 metres wide. The beach is flanked by forest on either side with open grassland behind. The water has a sandy bottom and becomes gradually deeper, with rare currents and no dominant current direction.

Location

Buresøbadet is situated in Egedal Municipality at the boundary with Allerød Municipality in the eastern end of Buresø lake. Parking is available where Skovvej and Klokkekildevej meet.

Facilities

Bathing platform, parking area, kiosk with limited opening hours, toilets, waste bins, bonfire area, grill, tables and benches. No lifeguard present, but a rescue post is located at the beach. Swimming is at one's own risk. No public transport nearby. Dogs are not permitted to swim at the beach. Horses are not permitted on the beach or in the water.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored 10 times per year by Allerød Municipality. No known sources of faecal pollution have been identified. The only potential sources of faecal contamination are bathers and animals in and around the lake. If health risks are identified, the municipality posts warning signs and announces closures on its website.

Risks

Risk of swimmers itch (cercarial dermatitis) caused by parasitic flatworm larvae, with documented cases in 1997 and 2001. Risk of cyanobacteria blooms during prolonged calm, warm weather, which can cause skin and eye irritation, and gastrointestinal symptoms. Risk of macrophyte and phytoplankton accumulation is assessed as low.
