La Caletta is a bathing area on the rocky coast of the Golfo della Spezia, featuring a short stretch of high rocky coastline with a small sandy beach surrounding it. The area is located in the eastern part of Cala di Maramozza. It is classified as a coastal water body with mountainous characteristics and low stability.

Coastal water body in the Golfo della Spezia. Area extends 0.293 square units. The water body is fed by the Fosso Casella drainage basin.

Location

Lerici, La Spezia province, Liguria region. The competent authority is the Municipality of Lerici, Piazza Bacigalupi 9. The Port Authority is located at Largo Michele Fiorillo 2.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008–2011). River mouth identified as a source of pollution impact. No coastal wastewater treatment plants, discharge pipes, or Imhoff tanks are present in the area.

Risks

River mouth discharge is an identified pollution source. A modelling approach for characterising short-duration pollution events is under development. The Ligurian Sea is not characterised by cyanobacterial blooms due to prevailing oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic algal strains have occurred in the past four years.
