Trylleskoven is a 300-meter-long sandy beach in Solrød Municipality, Denmark, located on Køge Bay. The beach consists of fine sand mixed with small stones and is 20–30 meters wide. A bathing pier is available at the site. Water depth increases gradually, making it child-friendly, with depths under 2 meters extending approximately 175 meters from the shore.

Water

Køge Bay, classified as brackish water. The water body has a gradually increasing depth with less than 2 meters of water extending 175 meters from the shore. Current direction is primarily from the south or north, based on assessments conducted between 2006–2010.

Location

Trylleskoven is the northernmost of four beaches in Solrød Municipality, accessed from Karlstrup Strandvej where a bus stop is available. Bicycle parking is located at the forest entrance, with a 250-meter trail through the forest to the beach. Car parking is available on the opposite side of Karlstrup Strandvej.

Facilities

Toilets, waste bins, picnic area with fixed fire pits and tables accommodating up to 70 persons, covered meal house for 30–35 persons, small playground with ship play structure, landing bridge and balance beam, accessible paths for wheelchair users, tables with wheelchair access, lifeguard ring, warning sign for water quality alerts, parking.

Season

1 June to 1 September. Routine water quality monitoring occurs throughout this period.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent based on routine monitoring from 2018–2021. The classification is based on analysis of fecal indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci). Monitoring occurs throughout the bathing season (1 June to 1 September). Identified pollution sources include two streams—Karlstrup Mosebæk (500 meters south) and Karlstrup Møllebæk (215 meters north)—which carry stormwater with potential fecal bacteria, particularly after rainfall. Some properties upstream of Karlstrup Møllebæk are not connected to the sewer system. Treated wastewater from Solrød treatment plant is discharged via a 700-meter marine outfall and does not normally affect bathing water quality.

Risks

Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) wash-up in shallow water; swimming near large accumulations of seaweed is not recommended as bacteria can survive longer in plant collections. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occasionally occur. High concentrations of fecal bacteria in streams may occur during heavy rainfall. Bathing near stream outfalls is not recommended.
