Østre Strandvej is a 400-meter-long beach in Solrød, Denmark, composed of fine sand mixed with small stones. The beach is 20–30 meters wide and is designated as a beach park that attracts many children and young people during summer. Water depth increases gradually, making it child-friendly, with depths under 2 meters extending 175 meters from the shore. A 50-meter bathing pier is available year-round, and facilities include a kiosk for refreshments and a beach volleyball court installed in 2011.

Water

Brackish water in Køge Bay. The beach extends 400 meters in length and 20–30 meters in width. Water depth under 2 meters extends approximately 175 meters from the shore. The seabed consists of sand with small stones evenly distributed. Current direction is primarily from the south or north.

Location

Østre Strandvej, Solrød Strand, Denmark. The beach is the second northernmost of Solrød's four beaches. Access is via the main road Solrød Strandvej heading east to Østre Strandvej, leading directly to parking facilities. Car parking and a large bicycle parking area are available. A toilet building and accessible pathway through the dunes are provided.

Facilities

Bathing pier (50 meters, available year-round), toilet building with drinking water, kiosk for refreshments, parking for cars and bicycles, accessible pathway through dunes for disabled users, beach volleyball court, rescue ring.

Season

Official monitoring period: 1 June to 1 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Classification is based on routine control samples taken during the bathing season (1 June to 1 September) and analysed for indicator bacteria E. coli and enterococci. The classification was calculated based on samples from 2018–2021 and meets required standards.

Risks

Two streams—Karlstrup Mosebæk (1,400 meters north) and Solrød Bæk (550 meters south)—occasionally contain high concentrations of faecal bacteria; bathing near their outlets is discouraged. Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms and phytoplankton blooms. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) washup in the surf zone. Glass fragments, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occasionally occur. Sudden contamination may arise from accidents involving leisure boats, slurry tanks, or sewer lines.
