Valadares Sul is an urban beach with a wide sandy strip located in Vila Nova de Gaia. The beach encompasses the concessions of Praia do Sindicato, Valadares Sul, and Atlântico. It is characterized by an extensive sandy area.

Season

2025 bathing season: June 14 to September 14. Sampling frequency: every 3 weeks.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to Decreto-Lei 135/2009 (amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012). In the 2024 bathing season, bathing was not advised against or prohibited due to short-term pollution events. Potential microbiological pollution sources include fecal contamination from the local sanitation network and the Valadares tributary. Cyanobacteria proliferation potential is moderate with historical occurrence of blooms. Macroalgae and phytoplankton proliferation potential is low with no historical occurrence.

Risks

Short-term pollution is unlikely but may occur due to excessive surface flow from the drainage network and tributaries during rainfall, leading to microbiological entrainment. Pollution may also occur due to malfunctions in the wastewater lifting station.
