Veddelev is a bathing beach located on Roskilde Fjord in Denmark, comprising a 300-meter-long sandy beach with fine sand and scattered small stones. The beach is 10 meters wide and situated in a small harbour town with over 1,100 residents. The water body is classified as brackish water with gradually increasing depth offshore.

Water

Roskilde Fjord classified as brackish water. The beach is 300 meters long and 10 meters wide. Water depth increases gradually, with depths under 2 metres extending approximately 150 metres from the shore. Current direction is variable, primarily from the southwest.

Location

Veddelev, a small harbour town northeast of Roskilde Fjord. The beach is accessible via multiple paths, with a large car park available to the south. Good access for wheelchair users and prams is provided. The beach is bordered by reed marshland to the north and Veddelev Harbour to the south.

Facilities

Parking available. Toilets, showers, and disabled access present. Warning signs for water quality alerts. Lifeguard services and rescue rings indicated. Waste bins located at the beach and harbour. Green recreational area available.

Season

Routine monitoring is conducted throughout the official bathing season. Classification is revised annually by May before the season begins.

Water Quality

Classified as Excellent quality based on routine monitoring from 2016–2019. The water meets all requirement values with very low concentrations of faecal bacteria (E. coli and enterococci). Classification is revised annually before the bathing season.

Risks

Rainwater outlet discharges at the beach, posing risk of faecal contamination during heavy rainfall; bathing is discouraged in this area. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) wash-up in the shallows. Low risk of harmful algal blooms (cyanobacteria and phytoplankton). Glass shards and litter may occur. Very low risk of chemical pollution. Sudden pollution events possible from accidents involving pleasure boats, slurry tanks, or sewage pipes.
