Vigen Strandpark is a family-friendly beach located on Roskilde Fjord between Veddelev and Roskilde in Denmark. The beach is 300 meters long and 10-15 meters wide, composed of fine sand with scattered small stones. A ramp provides accessible access for wheelchair users, people with mobility difficulties, and visitors with prams. The beach offers scenic views of Roskilde town and is situated in natural surroundings with a green area suitable for various activities.

Water

Roskilde Fjord is classified as brackish water. The beach faces a fjord with a gently sloping bottom of fine sand. Water depth is less than 2 meters at 50-100 meters from the shore. Current direction is variable, primarily from northwest and west.

Location

The beach is located on Roskilde Fjord between Veddelev and Roskilde. Access is via Baunehøjvej, which leads to a parking area 200 meters east of the beach. A ramp descends from the parking area toward the beach.

Facilities

Toilets, trash bins, parking, disabled access facilities, drinking water, first aid kit, life-saving ring, emergency telephone, blue flag, and warning signs for reduced bathing water quality. Toilet facilities are available at the adjacent Vigen Campingplads.

Season

1 June to 1 September. Water quality classification is revised annually by May.

Water Quality

The bathing water at Vigen Strandpark is classified as Excellent quality, meeting required values. Classification is based on routine sampling conducted regularly from 2016-2019 for indicator bacteria E. coli and enterococci. The classification is revised annually before the bathing season begins.

Risks

Heavy rainfall may result in discharge from two overflow structures (900 meters northwest and 1,300 meters southeast of the monitoring point) into the fjord, potentially affecting water quality during extreme precipitation. A stormwater outlet 400 meters northwest may contain high concentrations of fecal bacteria during rain, and bathing near this outlet is discouraged. Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) bloom is low. Risk of phytoplankton bloom is low. Macroalgae (seaweed) may wash ashore. Glass and litter can occasionally occur.
