Denmark Lake 1 - Excellent

Vedsted Sø is a freshwater lake located south of the town of Vedsted in a scenic area surrounded by natural spaces and forests. The bathing area features a 35-metre-long, 15-metre-wide beach with fine sand and small stones. Water depth increases gradually from the shore, making it suitable for families with children. The lake water is classified as excellent quality based on routine monitoring of indicator bacteria.

Water

Freshwater lake. Beach is 35 metres long and 15 metres wide. Lake bottom consists of sand with small stones. Water depth increases gradually from shore; deeper in the lake's centre with possible thermoclines. No measurable current.

Location

South of Vedsted, Haderslev Municipality, Denmark. Parking, toilet facilities, and a rescue ring are available at the beach. A large bathing jetty extends from the shore.

Season

Bathing season monitoring conducted June to September. Classification revised annually in May before swimming season start.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Classification based on routine sampling 2012-2015 for faecal indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci). Classification reviewed annually before swimming season. No known sources of faecal contamination identified in surrounding area.

Risks

Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms may occur but are rare. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low. Low risk of macroalgae washup. Glass shards and litter may occur. Very low risk of chemical contamination. Sudden pollution possible from accidents involving recreational boats, manure tanks, or sewage lines. Thermoclines may occur.
