Vesterstrand

Vester Strand is a 680 metre natural bathing beach located near Jægersprisborgerne. Access is on foot or by bicycle through a military exercise area. The beach features a grassy area and rocky outcrops in the water where visitors can rest. The water is shallow, requiring travel far from shore to reach deeper areas.

Water

Brackish water (1–2% salinity). Sandy bottom with soft sediment. Shallow water requiring considerable distance from shore to reach deeper areas. Potential for reef formation. Current direction follows wind direction.

Location

Accessed from a sharp bend on Kulhusvej heading towards Kulhuse. Parking is available at the bend on Kulhusvej, approximately 1 kilometre walk via a gravel road to the beach. Foot and bicycle access only through military exercise terrain.

Facilities

Bus stop available. Bathing platform present. No lifeguard. No disabled access facilities. No toilets. Dogs allowed on leash during summer season (April–October); dogs may be loose if under control during winter season (October–March).

Season

Monitored during official bathing season (April to October).

Water Quality

Bathing water classification: Excellent (Grade 4). Monitored by control station no. 121 with 5 samples per bathing season.

Risks

Low risk of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) bloom; may occur rarely during extended periods of calm, warm weather. Low risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton bloom; seaweed may occur. During heavy rainfall, wastewater pollution possible lasting up to 3 days depending on rainfall size and current and wind conditions.
