Resle Strand

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Resle Strand is a sandy beach with stones located on the Smålandsfarvandet inlet on the north coast of Falster. The beach is approximately 900 meters long and 10–20 meters wide, with shallow water reaching a depth of about 1 meter for the first 200 meters from shore. The surrounding area includes Resle Forest and Valnæs Forest, with agricultural land and scattered settlements further inland. Water temperature during the bathing season ranges from 14–26 °C.

Water

Brackish water inlet (Smålandsfarvandet). Beach approximately 900 meters long and 10–20 meters wide with sand and stone bottom. Water depth approximately 1 meter for the first 200 meters from shore. Current flows predominantly westward (26% of measurements) and eastward (15% of measurements).

Location

North Falster, reached via Valnæsvej. No public transport available. Parking available at the end of the road.

Season

Official monitoring season: 1 May to 1 September. Minimum six water quality samples taken during this period.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent according to Danish regulations (Bekendtgørelse nr. 939 af 18/09/2012), based on data from 2011–2014. No exceedances of bathing water quality requirements recorded during the monitoring period. No significant faecal contamination identified.

Risks

Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) blooms may occur, particularly during prolonged warm, sunny weather with easterly winds. Algae produce toxins causing headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhea. Macroalgae (seaweed) accumulation occurs at low risk but may accumulate at the shoreline. Glass shards, litter, oil spills, and other chemical pollution may occasionally occur. Sudden contamination possible from boat accidents, slurry tank spills, and sewage pipe failures.
