The bathing water is a sandy beach with a linear slope in both the emergent and submerged portions. A coastal biotope is present on a section of the final stretch of beach. The beach extends almost entirely through an urban area and measures approximately 1,300 metres in length. Average daily bathers during high season number around 6,150 persons. Part of the beach experiences strong erosive phenomena.

Water

Coastal water body. Sandy beach with average width of approximately 45 metres in the bathing water area, though erosive phenomena reduce this to approximately 22.5 metres over more than half the 1,300-metre stretch.

Location

Martinsicuro, Teramo Province, Abruzzo Region. The beach is located in an urban area with numerous services and facilities. Parking is available. Bus stops for regional and long-distance services are nearby. The beach is approximately 1.39 kilometres in extent.

Facilities

Lifeguard assistance and first aid services. Hygienic services for bathers on public areas and within commercial activities, with disabled access facilities. Car parking. Cycle-pedestrian paths. Information point with city map. IAT office. Nearby bus stops for regional and long-distance services. Leisure sports facility with skating rink, tennis courts, bowls, and children's games. Municipal museum (Antiquarium of Castrum Truentinum) within two kilometres. Municipal office, local police headquarters, port authority headquarters, numerous hotels, restaurants, bars, post office, private telephone services, and places of worship nearby. Nautical club with designated launching lanes for boats. Beach establishments rent skates and canoes.

Season

Monitoring conducted annually from April to September. Regional bathing ordinance covers the period from 2 March to 13 October 2021.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Annual monitoring is conducted by ARTA Teramo from April to September. Wastewater from the entire area is conveyed through a black water network to a treatment plant located north-east of the municipality. The treatment plant operator conducts laboratory analysis of discharged wastewater. ARTA Teramo performs 24-hour sampling monitoring in accordance with the regional monitoring plan. No evidence of untreated wastewater discharge impacting the bathing water.

Risks

Coastal biotope present. No cyanobacteria blooms recorded in the waters off the Abruzzo area. Sparse algal blooms in summer months. Past instances of dinoflagellate blooms with scarce or absent toxic species. No proliferation events of macroalgae, phytoplankton, or potentially toxic species recorded.
