Zona Chiappa is a rocky coastal bathing area located in Pieve Ligure, Genova, Liguria. The area is characterized predominantly by rocky cliffs and is the first western bathing water of the municipality. The bathing zone covers an area of 0.464 square kilometers.

Coastal water body (CWA3 category: coastal waters with mountainous terrain and low stability). Part of the Genova - Camogli water body. Drainage basin: Fosso Favaro.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent (2008-2011). No coastal wastewater treatment plants, discharge pipes, or Imhoff tanks are present in the area. The Ligurian Sea is not characterized by cyanobacterial blooms due to prevailing oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic algal strain proliferation have occurred in the last 4 years.

Risks

River mouth (foce fluviale) identified as a pollution source. A modeling approach for characterizing short-duration pollution events is under development.
