Zona Fontana is a coastal bathing area in Bogliasco, Liguria, characterized predominantly by rocky coastline. The area features a series of cliffs facing the eastern residential part of the municipality. The bathing water achieved an excellent classification from 2008 to 2011.

Location

Bogliasco, Genova province, Liguria region. The area extends 0.558 square kilometers. Contact: Municipality of Bogliasco, Via Mazzini 122, tel 010.374721.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008–2011). Identified pollution sources include the Bogliasco wastewater treatment plant, an offshore pipeline, and the mouth of the Torrente Favaro. The Ligurian Sea is not characterized by cyanobacterial blooms due to predominant oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic algal strain proliferation have occurred in the past four years.

Risks

Potential discharge impacts from the coastal wastewater treatment plant and offshore pipeline. A modeling approach for characterizing short-term pollution events is in development.
