Lido Zone is a bathing area in Chiavari, Liguria, consisting of a predominantly pebbly and shingle beach to the east and a breakwater mole at Chiavari's small harbor to the west. The area is strongly urbanized with private beach establishments offering tourist services alongside free public beach access, restaurants, and accommodation facilities. A railway, the SS1 state road, and various sports associations are located inland from the beach.

Water

Coastal water body (CWA3 category: mountainous terrain with low stability). The bathing area extends 0.664 km². The water body is part of the Chiavari-Sestri Levante system and is influenced by the T. Entella river basin.

Location

Chiavari, Genova province, Liguria region. The bathing area is situated between Punta Chiappe and Punta di Sestri, with Chiavari town center nearby. Chiavari municipal office: Piazza Nostra Signora Dell'Orto 1, 16043 Chiavari GE.

Facilities

Private beach establishments with tourist services, free public beach access, restaurants, and accommodation facilities. Sports associations including a fishing club, surf club, football field, bowls club, and swimming pool are located inland.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2021–2024: Excellent. Monitoring station CHIA at Chiavari shows no exceedance of the Ostreopsis ovata limit (30,000 cells/liter) during 2020–2024, though values between 10,000–30,000 cells/liter were recorded in July 2023 and 2024. The Ligurian Sea is characterized by oligotrophic conditions with no cyanobacterial blooms.

Risks

The Lavagna wastewater treatment plant outfall is located approximately 360 m to the east outside the bathing area, discharging 1.5 km offshore. The Chiavari and Lavagna marinas are located approximately 1 km west and 1.4 km east respectively, creating potential for port-related pollution. The T. Entella river mouth is situated at the eastern boundary of the bathing area; increased river discharge during heavy rainfall may transport effluent downstream. Ostreopsis ovata microalgal blooms have occurred in Liguria over the past decade; respiratory irritation and fever are possible temporary effects from aerosol inhalation in sensitive individuals.
