A sandy beach with fine quartz-feldspar and calcareo-siliceous sand, sloping at an average of 3%. The beach is protected by artificial emerging rocky outcrops. The distance between medium-low and high water (safe water limit) is 80 metres. Astronomical tides range from 30 to 50 centimetres. The surrounding area consists of urban settlements with a railway line passing through.

Coastal marine water. Beach width: 20 metres (average). Water body: Fano_Senigallia. Cesano River basin area: 415.4 square kilometres with a maximum secular flow rate of 1,111 cubic metres per second.

Location

Facilities

Private tourist village with first aid, lifeguard, restaurant, and hygiene facilities including disabled access. Animals not permitted.

Water Quality

2015: Sufficient classification; E. coli 90th percentile 341.7 CFU/100 ml; intestinal enterococci 90th percentile 112.8 CFU/100 ml. 2016: Sufficient classification; E. coli 90th percentile 201.6 CFU/100 ml; intestinal enterococci 90th percentile 100.4 CFU/100 ml. 2017: Good classification; E. coli 95th percentile 182.9 CFU/100 ml; intestinal enterococci 95th percentile 189.1 CFU/100 ml. 2018: Excellent classification; E. coli 95th percentile 178.7 CFU/100 ml; intestinal enterococci 95th percentile 96.7 CFU/100 ml. Wastewater treatment plant Marotta operates at the Cesano River mouth. In the last 4 years, 12 controls of treatment plant parameters were performed, all conforming to legal limits.

Risks

Presence of Cesano River mouth as potential pollution source. Short-duration pollution events characterised by slight increases in microbiological parameters caused by urban wastewater.
