A bathing beach located at Lungomare C. Colombo, 195 metres, situated 100 metres south in Mondolfo. The beach features fine quartz-feldspathic and limestone sand with a medium slope of 3 percent. It is protected by artificial rocky outcrops. The average distance from the water line to the waterline at safe water depth is 80 metres. The surrounding area consists of urban settlements with a railway line passing through.

Water Quality

Classification E. Water quality monitoring for treatment plant Marotta: 12 controls of parameters in table 1 and 3 controls of table 3 over the last 4 years, all conforming to legal limits. Untreated wastewater from the inland hinterland and historic centre is discharged directly into natural ditches without final treatment. A new general collector (Collettore Generale di Fondo Valle) is being constructed to redirect all untreated discharges to the treatment plant.

Risks

Non-toxic algal blooms of Chaetoceros socialis and Fibrocapsa japonica recorded in 2008 and 2009 respectively, causing anomalous water discolouration.
