Water Quality

Water quality classification: E (as of 01/02/2012). No pollution sources were identified that could affect bathing water quality. The Pesaro municipal wastewater network conveys effluent to five treatment plants. The largest plant at Borgheria, near the mouth of the Fiume Foglia, serves the Pesaro urban area with capacity for approximately 90,000 population equivalents and flow rate of approximately 20,000 cubic metres per day using biological treatment. Over 4 years, 24 annual checks of Table 1 parameters and 6 annual checks of Table 3 parameters were conducted, all compliant with legal limits. Mixed urban wastewater collectors with disinfection stations discharge to the Fiume Foglia and torrente Genica; some have been partially remediated through connection to new black sewerage directed to the Borgheria treatment plant.
