A sandy beach in Pesaro with fine quartz-feldspar and calcareous sedimentary sand. The beach has a median slope of 3% and is protected by artificial rocky outcrops. The water distance between mean low and high tide marks is 80 meters, with astronomical tidal range of 30–50 centimeters. The surrounding area is densely urbanised.

Water

Rio Genica stream outlet. The Genica torrent catchment covers 21 square kilometers with a total watercourse length of 8.5 kilometers.

Location

Pesaro, Marche region, Pesaro-Urbino province. Located approximately 2.5 kilometers south-east of the mouth of the Foglia river. Average beach width is 70 meters.

Facilities

Part of beach is free access, part is equipped with beach facilities under concession. Dogs and other animals are prohibited on the beach during the bathing season.

Season

Official monitoring and diversion measures operate from late March to October each year.

Water Quality

Classification: E (poorest quality). The bathing water is influenced by untreated wastewater from Rio Genica. From late March to October each year, the stream water is intercepted and diverted to the Foglia river to limit microbial contamination. During heavy rainfall events, this diversion is ineffective and untreated waters reach the bathing area, causing short-term bathing prohibitions. The largest treatment plant serving Pesaro (Borgheria facility) processes approximately 20,000 cubic meters per day with biological treatment for approximately 90,000 population equivalents.

Risks

Untreated domestic and stormwater discharges from Rio Genica near its mouth. Short-term microbiological contamination from urban wastewater during heavy rainfall events. Mixed sewage overflow structures discharge to both Foglia river and Genica torrent.
