A sandy beach located in Pesaro with fine quartz-feldspar and limestone-flint sand at a 3% average slope. The beach is protected by natural and artificial reefs. The surrounding area consists of urban settlements with a protected grassy area. The beach has an average width of 70 metres.

Water

San Bartolo water body. Average distance from water to low and high water line (safe water limit) is 80 metres. Tidal range is 30–50 centimetres. The bathing area extends 0.12005 units.

Location

Pesaro, Marche region, Pesaro Urbino province. Located along Viale Varsavia on the southern stretch (50 m Sud Tratto a Mare). The Municipal Police can be contacted at 0721 387800.

Facilities

Lifeguard service. Free beach with facilities. Dogs and other animals are prohibited during the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: E. The Foglia River mouth (approximately 5.3 km from the bathing area) discharges mixed urban wastewater collectors not connected to the main Borgheria treatment plant, plus approximately 20 overflows. The Borgheria treatment plant serves the urban nucleus of Pesaro with a capacity of approximately 90,000 person equivalents and a flow rate of approximately 20,000 m³/day with biological treatment. Monitoring controls are carried out 24 times per year for Table 1 parameters and 6 times per year for Table 3 parameters, all in compliance with legal limits.

Risks

Microalgal blooms of non-toxic Noctiluca scintillans and Chlorophyceae blooms occurred in 2008 and 2009, causing anomalous water discolouration. Mixed urban wastewater collectors discharge into the Foglia River and Genica stream.
