Colonia PP TT is a sandy beach in Pesaro with fine quartz-feldspar and calcareous sand. The beach has a gentle average slope of 3% extending 80 metres from mean low water to high water (safe swimming limit). The beach is partly managed as a free equipped beach with lifeguard service and partly operates as a private bathing establishment. The surrounding area is densely urbanised.

Marine water body (Pesaro_Fano). Beach width: 60 metres average. Astronomical tide range: 30–50 cm. Distance between mean low and high water: 80 metres.

Location

Pesaro, Marche region, Pesaro-Urbino province, Italy. The beach extends to the port boundary. Municipal Police can be contacted at 0721 387800.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: E (poor). The main treatment facility at Borgheria has a capacity of approximately 90,000 population equivalents and discharge rate of approximately 20,000 m³/day with biological treatment. Annual monitoring (24 controls per year for table 1 parameters and 6 controls per year for table 3 parameters) shows all results comply with legal limits. Mixed wastewater collectors not connected to Borgheria treatment plant discharge into the Foglia River and Genica stream, though many have been remediated since 2003.

Risks

Cyanobacteria bloom recorded in 2009 identified as Oscillatoria curviceps with filamentous aggregates resembling mucilage. Unconnected sewage collectors discharge into the Foglia River approximately 5.3 km upstream. Approximately 20 combined sewer overflow points in the Foglia River terminal section.
