Viale Berna is a sandy beach in Pesaro, Marche region, with fine quartz-feldspar and limestone sand extending to the port limit. The beach is protected by artificial emerged breakwaters and has a gentle average slope of 3%. A grassed area on public land borders the beach and requires protection. The beach spans approximately 80 metres in width and is partially managed as a free supervised beach with lifeguard service and partially as a licensed bathing establishment.

Water

San Bartolo body of water. The beach extends 80 metres from mean low water to the safe water limit. Astronomical tide range is 30–50 centimetres. The covered area is 0.26505 hectares.

Location

Water Quality

2015: Good classification with E. coli 95th percentile 441.7 and intestinal enterococci 157.3. 2016: Good classification with E. coli 95th percentile 414.4 and intestinal enterococci 118.2. 2017: Excellent classification with E. coli 95th percentile 223.5 and intestinal enterococci 72.2. 2018: Excellent classification with E. coli 95th percentile 154.9 and intestinal enterococci 27.9. The area is densely urbanised. The Borgheria treatment plant near the Foglia River mouth serves Pesaro's urban core with a capacity of approximately 90,000 equivalent inhabitants and a flow rate of approximately 20,000 m³ per day using biological treatment.

Risks

Mixed sewage collectors not connected to the main Borgheria treatment plant discharge into the Foglia River approximately 5.3 kilometres from the mouth. Approximately 20 combined sewer overflows are present. Microbiological pollution from urban wastewater discharge has been identified. No cyanobacterial proliferation detected. No algal or phytoplankton blooms reported during the monitoring period. No harmful algal species events reported in the previous four years.
