Alhøjvænge Strand is a sandy beach located near Korsør in Slagelse Municipality, Denmark. The beach is 15 to 50 metres wide and approximately 200 metres long, oriented toward the southwest with an open coastal aspect. The seabed consists of sand to a depth of approximately 2 metres. Water quality at the beach is classified as excellent based on data from 2012–2017.

Water

Saltwater beach with seabed of sand. Depth reaches approximately 2 metres between 110 and 130 metres from shore. Water depth varies due to tidal and weather conditions.

Location

The beach is located in the south-eastern part of Korsør, Slagelse Municipality, Denmark. Access is via Alhøjvej with parking at the end of the road.

Facilities

Parking available at the end of Alhøjvej. Toilet facilities available. Warning signs for water quality alerts are present. Information on water quality alerts is available on the municipality website.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data from 2012–2017. Monitoring is conducted 6 times per year. The dominant current direction is from the east (33% of measurements). No correlation has been identified between current direction and increased pollution.

Risks

Risk of faecal pollution during extreme rainfall, with bathing not recommended for 3 days after such events. Low risk of cyanobacteria blooms, though they can occur suddenly. Risk of seaweed wash-up, though it typically washes away within a few days. Occasional glass fragments, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occur. Plankton accumulation in shellfish is possible, though toxic plankton has not been detected in open areas. Bathing is not recommended near large quantities of washed-up seaweed or strong foam.
