Skovstranden

Skovstranden is a mixed stone and sand beach located on the open coast facing Storebælt, oriented toward the south. The beach is 10–20 meters wide and approximately 650 meters long, divided by several groynes. The seabed to approximately 2 meters depth consists of sand and stone, with relatively steep gradients. The beach is backed by vegetation and a cliff, with Korsør recreational forest immediately behind.

Water

Open coastal water body (Storebælt). Beach dimensions: 10–20 meters wide, approximately 650 meters long. Distance to 2 meters depth: 70–130 meters. Seabed composition: sand and stone. Dominant current direction measured 24 times between 2012–2015, primarily from the south (31% of measurements).

Location

Skovstranden is located in Slagelse Municipality, Denmark. Access is via Korsør lystskov road off Skovvej. Parking spaces, information signage, and toilet facilities (1 June–1 September) are available at the end of the road, with a path leading down to the beach.

Official monitoring season: 6 sampling occasions per year. Toilet facilities available 1 June–1 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Classification based on data from 2012–2017. Monitoring conducted 6 times per year. Potential fecal pollution sources: streams through Korsør forest receiving wastewater from isolated properties; Korsør treatment plant discharges treated wastewater to Storebælt via pipeline 500 meters offshore, approximately 1 km further south. Diffuse pollution possible from inland sources.

Risks

Risk of blue-green algae bloom assessed as low. Risk of seaweed washup present but typically washed out within days due to favorable current conditions. Glass fragments, litter, and chemical pollution (including oil spills) occasionally occur. Sudden pollution from boat accidents, slurry tanks, and sewer lines possible. Swimming not recommended for 3 days after heavy rainfall.
