Ceresstranden is a sandy beach located near the town of Slagelse on the open Danish coast, oriented southwest. The beach is 20–30 metres wide and approximately 270 metres long, with vegetation consisting of grass and wild rose. The seabed consists of sand to a depth of approximately 2 metres. Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data from 2012–2017.

Water

Saltwater beach on the open coast. The beach is 20–30 metres wide and approximately 270 metres long. The seabed consists of sand to approximately 2 metres depth. Distance to 2 metres depth ranges from 90 to 150 metres from the shore. Dominant current direction is from the west, occurring in 35% of measurements taken between 2012–2015.

Location

Ceresstranden is located in Slagelse Municipality near the town of Slagelse. The beach is accessed via Ceresvej and parking is available at the entrance to the area. A gravel path leads from the car park to the beach.

Information board at the entrance to the beach area. Bathing bridge. Toilets. Emergency telephone. Parking. First aid equipment. Lifeguard station. Warning system for degraded bathing water quality.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent. Classification is based on data from 2012–2017. Monitoring is conducted 10 times per year. No correlation has been identified between current direction and increased pollution.

Risks

Risk of blue-green algae bloom is low, though blooms can occur during prolonged warm periods with nutrients in the water. Algae can produce toxins causing headache, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhoea. Risk of seaweed wash-up is present, though current conditions typically wash it out within a few days; toxins can form in decaying seaweed and it may contain pathogenic bacteria. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occasionally occur. Sudden contamination can occur from boat accidents, manure tanks, and sewage lines. In the event of extreme rainfall, Slagelse Municipality advises against bathing for 3 days.
