Arenella is a bathing water area in the Gulf of La Spezia, located in Portovenere, Liguria. The beach consists of gravel and pebbles. The bathing area is formed by a stretch of coast with artificial piers and breakwaters, located east of the Cala Doria marina. The water is classified as coastal waters with mountainous features and low stability.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008-2011). Monitoring period from 2008 to 2011 determined the excellent classification. No coastal treatment plants or Imhoff tanks are present. River mouths have been identified as pollution sources.

Risks

River mouths identified as potential pollution sources. The Ligurian Sea is not characterized by cyanobacterial blooms due to predominant oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic algal strains have been recorded.
