Arnager Bugt is a bathing beach located on the south coast of Bornholm between Rønne and Dueodde. The bathing area extends approximately 4 km along the coast between Arnager Harbour and Sose Odde, featuring stretches of good sandy beach interspersed with rockier sections. Water depth increases gradually from the shore to 2 metres at approximately 100 metres from land. The seabed conditions with reefs and deeper areas are variable depending on wind and current.

Water

Coastal bathing water with stable salinity between 7 and 8 ‰. Water depth increases gradually from shore to 2 metres at approximately 100 metres from land. Current direction and speed depend on wind conditions, with generally small current speeds except during strong winds. Seabed conditions with reefs and deeper areas are variable.

Location

Located on Bornholm's south coast between Rønne and Dueodde. Access to the beach is available from Arnager Harbour and from several smaller car parks between the coast and Søndre Landevej. Public toilets are located at the harbour and at the car park near Madsegrav approximately 500 metres east of Arnagervej.

Two lifeguard rescue posts (R 370 and R 380). Public toilets at the harbour and at the car park near Madsegrav. Parking available at Arnager Harbour and several smaller car parks between the coast and Søndre Landevej.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data from 2016–2019. Multiple years of bathing water data from the municipal monitoring station show good water quality in Arnager Bugt. The nearest potential source of water pollution is an emergency overflow from a pumping station that transports wastewater from Arnager to Rønne Treatment Plant, discharging into the sea approximately 200 metres west of Arnager Harbour at approximately 6 metres depth. This overflow only functions during power failures or other emergencies.

Risks

Blue-green algae (Nodosaria spumigena, Aphanizomenon flos-aqua and others) bloom naturally every year in the Baltic Sea around Bornholm, typically occurring during the warm season from July to August, especially in sunny, calm periods. Algae can accumulate in unpleasant masses along exposed coasts. Although there is no risk from wading through algal accumulations to reach clear water, algae can produce toxic substances and should not be ingested. Small children and dogs are advised against bathing where algae concentrations are high. The municipality has no record of swimmers becoming ill from these algae. Seaweed and other macroalgae occasionally drift onto the beach, causing seaweed odour.
