Boderne Strand is a sandy beach located on the south coast of Bornholm, midway between Rønne and Dueodde. The beach is approximately 1.6 km long and is bounded by Boderne Harbour to the northwest and Raghammer Odde to the southeast. Water depth increases gradually from the shore to 2 metres approximately 100 m from land. The beach has only sporadic stone occurrences and experiences seabed conditions with ridges and deeper sections that vary depending on wind and current.

Water

Marine beach. Approximately 1.6 km long. Water depth increases gradually to 2 metres at approximately 100 m from shore. Salinity is stable between 7 and 8 ‰. Current direction and speed depend on wind, with generally small current velocities except during strong winds.

Location

Boderne Strand is located on the south coast of Bornholm, midway between Rønne and Dueodde. Access is via Bodernevej. Public parking is available immediately adjacent to the western part of the beach. A rescue station (R 350) is located between the car park and the beach.

Public toilet on the car park. Kiosk, café, and clothing shop within 200 m of the car park. Rescue station with rescue number R 350.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as 'excellent' based on data from 2016–2019. Monitoring data from the municipality's control station shows good water quality that is only occasionally affected by wastewater. The nearest potential pollution source is the discharge pipe from Boderne Treatment Plant, which discharges into the sea approximately 200 m west of Boderne Harbour at approximately 6 m water depth.

Risks

Blue-green algae blooms (Nodularia spumigena, Aphanizomenon flos-aquae and others) occur annually in the Baltic Sea around Bornholm during warm periods, particularly July–August in calm, sunny conditions. Algae can accumulate in gel-like masses along exposed coasts. Algae can produce toxic substances; caution is advised against ingesting them. Swimming is not recommended for small children and dogs where algae is abundant. Tangles of seaweed and other macroalgae can periodically wash ashore, particularly near the harbour, occasionally producing seaweed odour. The eastern part of the beach may be cordoned off during military exercises due to explosion risk, though exercises occur predominantly outside the bathing season.
